Shedding the Weight: Out of Darkness, Into the Light
Jan 07, 2025
Let’s talk about weight.
Yep, that topic. The one that can make us cringe, roll our eyes, or pull out the emergency chocolate stash (AKA avoid). For years, I’ve wrestled with my weight—the sugar cravings that hit at 9:00 PM, the endless cycle of "I’ll start Monday," and the overwhelming frustration of feeling like I’m running on a treadmill (metaphorically… and also literally) and getting absolutely nowhere. Sound familiar?
Now, here’s where it gets juicy. A while back, I stumbled upon this book—The Course in Weight Loss by Marianne Williamson. It’s not your typical "eat this, not that" guide. It dives deep into the emotional and spiritual reasons we struggle with weight, and let me tell you, it hit me right in the feels. Naturally, I shared it with Shonna because, duh, life’s better when you’ve got a partner-in-crime. We were both like, "Yes! This is it! Let’s tackle it together."
But… (and there’s always a but, isn’t there?) the timing wasn’t right. Shonna was in the thick of grad school, juggling papers, internships, and about a million billion other things (not to mention keeping my business going smoothly). Meanwhile, I was trying to keep my head above water in the sea of life. We set the book aside, and honestly, I think a part of me breathed a sigh of relief—because, let’s face it, this stuff is heavy. And I don’t mean the kind of heavy you can measure on a scale.
Fast forward to 2025. Shonna graduated and is a therapist (cue the confetti 🎉 ). Somewhere along the way, she learned this wild statistic: people are 90% more successful at completing a goal when they do it in the community. Ninety percent! That’s not just a little nudge; that’s a straight-up lightbulb moment.
It hit us: what if we didn’t just read this book? What if we really did this—together?
And not just together, as Shonna and I are texting each other progress updates. No, we’re talking together together. Us. You, me, her -- that 'us.' Together, we'll be out here, sharing our pain points, our resistance, our wins, and our “I just ate an entire bag of gummy bears, oops, but this is what I learned” moments. Modeling how we can face this big, messy, emotional topic head-on, not in the shadows, but right out in the open. Out of the darkness, and into the light. (Yes, that’s Shonna’s mantra for 2025. Yes, it’s perfect. No, we’re not taking feedback on it.)
We’re inviting you to join us on this ride—a ride that’s sure to be wildly uncomfortable at times (hello, vulnerability!), but also deeply meaningful. Because here’s the thing: this isn’t just about losing weight. It’s about shedding the beliefs, patterns, and stories that weigh us down. It’s about finding freedom, joy, and yes, maybe even the ability to keep Oreos in the house without eating the whole sleeve in one sitting.
So, if you’ve been feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or just plain fed up, come along. We’ll laugh, cry, and probably overshare along the way. And who knows? Maybe, just maybe, we’ll all find a little more light together.
2025, we’re coming for you.
Love, Rachelle (and Shonna!)
